A Stores Greatest Asset

February 21, 2017 by Tami

Sometimes I think I overlook the greatest asset of my store.

I’m so busy unpacking new merchandise, double checking inventory, being sure everything has a price tag, stocking the shelves, rearranging the shelves….

So much to do, so little time and the store itself is not the greatest asset, it’s our customers.

The stores there for the customers. Without the customers there would be no store. I think sometimes we tend to forget just how important our customers are to us. It’s not that we intentionally neglect them but we may not see them as importantly as they truly are.

In the back room at my store posted for everyone to see is a little sign. It’s a reminder to my employees to always respect and take care of our customers. It happened to catch my eye this afternoon and I thought it might be nice to share.

1.  The customer is always The most important person in our store. He/she is not dependent on you… You are dependent on him/her.

2.  A customer is not someone to argue with. Nobody ever won an argument with a customer.

3. A customer is not an interruption to your work, but the purpose of it. You’re not doing a favor by serving them; they are doing you a favor by letting you serve them.

4.  The customer is not an outsider to your business; they are your business.

5.  A customer is a person who brings you his/her wants. It is your job to fill them profitably… for them and yourself.

6. A customer is your ONLY reason for being in business. Without them we would have to close the doors.

7.  Don’t let a customer walk through your door without giving them a smile and saying hello. Never let them leave without saying thank you whether they buy something or not.

I never want to forget the value of my customers. They are the most important asset in my store.

Tami Loves her customers ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Shout-Out To My Ladies 50 and over!!!!!

January 25, 2017 by Tami

My girlfriend called me the other day sounding a little down. When I asked her what was wrong, she said she’d received an application for AARP in the mail, and didn’t like to think she was now “old.”
“Old???”, I asked. “Are you kidding me? Baby, we are in our PRIME!”
Remember how life was when we were a teeny bit younger than we are now, and had a baby on each hip? We INVENTED multitasking! We could do laundry, pay bills and talk on the phone all at the same time. We rallied around a challenge, and had no problem meeting a work deadline, getting our brakes fixed, and making cupcakes for the the PTA bake-sale all in the same afternoon. Life was…hectic but rewarding, and we went with the flow of work, kids, errands and company dinners with our husbands without a hitch.
So what has changed? Just because we’re over 50, doesn’t mean we can’t pull it all together! Heck, I bet most of us are multitasking even more now than we used to. It’s become second-nature to us, and we’re teaching our girls and grand-daughters how to do it, too. After all, the world hasn’t slowed down as we’ve gotten older…it’s on technology warp-speed!! There are more gadgets to make life easy, but we still have to be on top of that technology to make it work for us. Perhaps life isn’t quite the same as those of you who are at the raising-kids-stage, but it’s still on semi-warp speed.
So the time we make for us, to do our projects, and enjoy our homes, and our lives should be even more special to us. We still love to decorate, bake, create, stimulate, educate, reciprocate and yes…even vegetate! But hold your horses!! I’m still water-skiing, power-walking, and hiking with the rest of you! We aren’t distracted by being full-time moms like we used to be, but it was glorious when we were!! Now, we can take some time for us, and enjoy some “ME time.”
Here’s a great big SHOUT OUT to all you wonderful ladies who are 50-plus…as you text, email, scan, transmit and receive all your technology on the information highway to the future!!! Life is not about to leave you behind, and neither am I!! I’m right here with you! Come see me!!
Tami Loves…still kickin’ it while being 50-plus!

Decorating for the day of Love…

January 17, 2017 by Tami

Tami Loves, loves, loves Valentine’s Day!!
It’s one of my all-time favorite holidays, not to mention a very special day for me personally, but there are so many fun things to do ahead of time to celebrate the day of LOVE!!
I love to see a little bit of red, pink and white here and there, throughout my home in honor of Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have to stop with those colors! Your valentine decor can be any color you choose!! How about a teal valentine theme, or a rich royal purple?
Need some sweet ideas for your table? How about candied conversation hearts in glass pillars with candles and bows? Or cut out construction paper hearts, use a glue stick to add some glitter, and sprinkle them on a plain white table runner, with candles in the center. I also like the idea of using two, clear, glass vases- one small enough to fit inside the other. Fill the gap between the vases with Valentine M& M’s or conversation hearts, then put fresh flowers in the smaller vase, making sure they’re tall enough to stand above the larger vase.
Let your kids make valentines hearts and string them on jute or yarn, separating the hearts with pieces of drinking straws- these heart garlands look so cute in a doorway, or across a mantle, and having your kids involved make them even more special! How about a Valentine heart tree? The ideas are endless!!
Check out the photos on our website for craft classes incorporating the Valentine’s Day theme. Make and take a beautiful door decor art piece such as our Valentine Heart Door Decor on January 27th at 5:30pm, or the whimsical Valentine Cupcake Door Decor on February 4th at 5:30pm. Sign up for a class soon as they tend to fill quickly!
Be creative, and enjoy the day of Love, ahead of time!!
Tami Loves…every little part of LOVE!!

Smell those roses!!

January 16, 2017 by Tami

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? If so, are you still following it?
I always say for my New Year’s resolution that I will be a better person than I was the past year. To me, that seems attainable. I can always better myself in some way; be more kind, loving, understanding, considerate, determined.
Ah, now there’s a goal…to be more determined. How many of us accomplish every little thing we want to get done each day? And even if we could do that every single day of the year, would we feel satisfied? I’m guessing not. Because even though we do all that we can, and more, sometimes we’re left feeling like it somehow wasn’t enough. Still, we’re determined to “get it done” or “finish it up.”
The key is not in what lies at the end of the day, it’s what we make of the whole day. You’ve heard he phrase, “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.” Don’t dwell on the final outcome, instead enjoy the whole process! I find when I do that, I am actually more aware of what I’m doing as I’m doing it, and I pause to take it all in…whether I’m shopping with a friend, painting with my team, or enjoying one of my class nights, it makes me appreciate the moment more when I’m aware of how I feel right then. It makes the moment more special, and a more distinctive part of my day. I don’t simply shop to get it done, or work to see it finished, or teaching a class for it to be over. I stop and savor the experience while I’m in the midst of it.
As you think of tomorrow, don’t put all your focus on one specific ending. Instead, plan a course, imagine it going wonderfully, then let go. Enjoy all the comes to you in the meantime. You really do need to stop and smell the roses. Heck, you need to stop and PICK some! Share them with friends! Decorate with them! You get what I’m telling you. Make everyday have a purpose, but include lots of time to enjoy that purpose as it unfolds. We only get one chance to live today. Make it memorable!
Oh by the way, my New Year’s resolution is to be more determined to enjoy each day, and all that it brings.
Tami Loves…stopping to smell the roses…and the dandelions!

What about luck?

January 13, 2017 by Tami

Hello my friends,

As I’m reviewing my plan for today, I’m reminded it’s Friday, the 13th.

Are any of you superstitious?

I guess I am, a little, but not about bad luck.

I feel we create our own luck, if there really is such a thing. My philosophy is to treat everyone the way I want to be treated, be kind, give love, and live life with a positive attitude. So if there’s any space in there for any kind of luck, I KNOW it’s going to be the good kind. I believe if I put on a smile, and face the day knowing its going to be a wonderful one, then IT WILL be!! No doubt. I don’t leave it to chance or luck.

There’s always going to be Friday the 13th’s, black cats, ladders, umbrellas, and cracks in the sidewalk. So? There’s also all kinds of negativity around us each day. The way to deal with negativity is by using positivism. Knock it right out by filling your heart with the belief that your happy attitude can change the world, one person at a time, beginning with each person you meet today.

There’s even more power in being positive, and having faith, hope and joy.

What makes life rewarding? The love you feel when your child places their trust in you, the satisfaction you get from helping a neighbor,  or perhaps the joy you experience when you accomplish a task that was a challenge? You betcha!! Our attitude is what gives us the rewarding experiences in life. Don’t leave your day to chance, MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK…the good kind!

I choose to be positive, and I hope you do, too.

*Find the good in someone or something today. Crush out negativity. Go with JOY!! *

Tami Loves…a happy soul, filled with joy.

“What can I do with a free sample of Country Chic Paint?”

January 12, 2017 by Tami

“What can I do with a free sample of Country Chic Paint??”
That’s what I was recently asked in my shop.
Well, sit back, and hold onto your seats, because a lil’ bit of paint can do a LOT of things!!
Have an antique or outdated side table you no longer love? Why not try painting it to go with your decor? After lightly sanding it, choose one of our free samples of Country Chic Paint, and you’ll be amazed at the transformation!
Feeling crafty? A free sample of paint will easily change a blah picture frame or mirror frame into something you can’t wait to get on your wall. Or how about creating your own crafty slogan on a plaque or sign! There’s always the option of stenciling with your free paint sample, too!
Perhaps you have a couple of bar stools that need some new life. Black is the new brown, and gray is the new black! YES, we have those colors…and a whole lot more. Benches, chairs, stools…all can be painted with a free paint sample.
Is there a shelf in your life that just isn’t holding it’s weight with you anymore? (pun intended!) Paint it! Add some color to a neutral room.
Wooden TV trays seem a bit old-looking? Paint them! Your football party-goers will thank you! Yes, you could do team colors, if you want to really get in the spirit!!
You get the idea. A little sample of Country Chic Paint goes a long way, and will let you have some fun being creative! Go to http://www.countrychicpaint.com/pages/free-samples  Print the coupon for your free sample, and bring it into Tami Loves.
We’ll set you up with a color you’ll love, and you’ll discover the possibilities!!

Blog For Tami Loves – Finding Treasures…Creating Art

January 10, 2017 by denita hursey

If you know me at all, or have ever been to Tami Loves, you know how much I love vintage items. Let me rephrase that. I love old stuff. To me, something old has a story to tell…and I love figuring out what that story is, and how I can re-purpose it into our modern times.

Have you ever heard the saying, “everything old is new again?” Well, that certainly rings true with me!
There isn’t a button, bottle, doorknob, frame, or corbel that I can’t appreciate, and turn into something useful, and beautiful. It can literally be anything!! I love to steampunk old novelty items into the coolest belt buckles you’ve ever seen! I have a huge selection on hand, or I can custom-design one. I also have antique optometry lens’ that have been artistically transformed into beautiful necklaces. There isn’t anything I can’t do with the baubles of yesteryear. And you can do it, too! I’ll show you how!
I like to take something as simple as a button, and see where I can use it, creating a kind of art that truly comes from the heart. These little things mean something to me. I find their story fascinating, as I imagine the era when they were new, how they were made, and their purpose decades ago.
Look around your home, attic, basement, garage, shed, etc. Some old things we take for granted. We see them each day and they eventually become invisible. We pass them and no longer notice their unique qualities. But they’re on hand, waiting for their turn to become useful again. How cool it is to turn your great-grandma’s front-door handle into a piece of art your family can enjoy, preserving it’s beauty, and keeping a family treasure on display.
If you have something old, and need some help transforming it, take one of my classes. It’s fun!

February 1st we are creating beautiful old bottles in a class starting at 5:30. The location is 265 Sunrise Center in Zanesville Ohio. $45.00 each. Please bring any old treasures you’d like to add to your project.

Go to www.tamiloves.com to save your seat!!!

Age Is Just A Number …

January 9, 2017 by denita hursey

I came across this lovely photo and message, and wanted to share it with you.
Sometimes, we get caught up in our age, and feel like we coulda, shoulda, woulda…done or said, this or that, but that little number holds us back.

Honestly, my body may tell the world something different, but in my head, I’m forever 22. Yes, that’s still a number, but to me it represents an age where I thought anything and everything was possible. And because I’m still 22 in my head, I STILL believe that!

I hear people say, “Oh if I could be 30 again, and know what I know now.” Or “I wish I’d done that back when I turned 50.”

It’s as if the opportunity to do something special, or to change one’s way of thinking has passed, and now can’t be achieved.

That is so NOT TRUE!

Everyday, no matter our age, is an opportunity to live life fully! If you’re about numbers, then everyday, we can be shining examples of what’s it’s like to be _____. Fill in that blank with your age. There is no appropriate number to which you can stop being smarter, better, healthier, sexier, wiser, adventurous, happier, etc.

If you want to go back to college at 50, do it!! If you want to write a novel at 70, do it! Feel like adding some vibrant color to your hair? Go for it! We as a society, get hung up on age-appropriateness behavior. Now I’m not talking about children. Children need to follow age-appropriate guidelines from their parents. I’m talking about adults who feel that because they’ve reached a certain age, they can’t go back and do or try something they put off for one reason or another.

Life is about the journey. If your journey includes sky-diving at 60, or scuba-diving at 30, and that makes you happy, then by all means, do it. Throw away that number that you feel identifies you. It’s a number, not an expiration date.

Enjoy this day, and try something new and different tomorrow, and everyday after that!! Live in the moment!
Tami Loves…not being defined by a number so we can live and enjoy this great life!

Am I Weird?

January 9, 2017 by denita hursey

How weird is it that I can’t stand my clothes to be out of order in my closet?   I like them color coordinated. Sometimes it’s hard enough to figure what you want to wear that day.  Having my colors coordinated helps me out a lot.  Of course almost everything I wear is black, not for any reason other then it’s easy. Black always seems to match black. When I’m wearing khaki and I’m looking for something to go with it it’s always off just a shade and that bugs me.  I am a matchey matchey girl. This drives my daughters crazy by the way!!  I think it’s just an age thing.  These young girls mix colors and patterns and it looks absolutely adorable but when I do it it’s just not quite right and I’m paranoid about it all day long – who needs that aggravation all day.  So kudos to you girls who can just hang your clothes up in your closet anywhere you feel like hanging them. For me it’s everything in its place!!
