I have a really simple and fun project for you today, friends! I am showing you how to make coasters with a vintage theme. You only need a few supplies and a few minutes to make your own beautiful coasters!
I love using vintage pages for my projects. I love the look of them but I also love that I can bring them back to life. Instead of hiding away in a book where you never see them, you can bring the beautiful pages out into the open where they can be loved and admired.
I am always looking for ways to get fabulous vintage pieces out of boxes and into daily decor. So often I meet people who have vintage items from relatives but don’t know what to do with them. So they sit in a closet collecting dust. One of the things I like to do best is to help get those items out in the open so they can be treasured. Learning how to make coasters with book pages is a great place to start!
How to Make Coasters with a Vintage Look
When I hit the vintage markets I always keep an eye out for pages with different colors and fonts. Many times I find them in a bin where they are getting jostled around and not appreciated. I rescue some on almost every trip so I have quite the collection now.
I love having them on hand so that I can grab them anytime a crafty inspiration hits. If you don’t have a pile like I do but would like to have one I have you covered! On the website you can snag large and small packs of pages that I have hand curated! You can use your pages for this project and have a bunch left over for other crafts.
You could also take these coasters in a totally different direction if you want to. You could use old Christmas cards to make a festive set. Or browse the scrap booking aisle and grab something that you love. You could even use pictures of loved ones to make a sentimental set!
And, these are so easy to make that you can make a set for yourself and some for gifts! There are so many things that you can use that it is easy to make a set tailored to each person you want to give them to. Once the coasters are done you can make a stack of four and bundle them together and tie them up with some jute string or muslin shreds.
Love the look of these coasters but don’t want to make them yourself? There are several coasters that I have made that are available on the website. And I have them all listed separately so that you can choose your own set!
Supply List
- Ceramic tiles
- Book pages and/or sheet music
- Mod Podge
- Scissors
- Felt (for the bottom of your coasters
Step by Step Instructions
- Start by choosing the papers you want to use. You can either use one sheet or pieces of many sheets. Tear the edges of your pieces to add more texture.
- If using a whole piece of paper, place your tile face down on the page. Then use the scissors to cut a slit at each corner. Next fold the page over the tile and secure the paper to the bottom of the tile with Mod Podge.
- Then continue adding pieces, using the Mod Podge to secure them. Once you are all done, apply a layer of Mod Podge to the whole coaster.
- Once your coaster is dry, cut a piece of felt to the size of your tile. Then attach it to the bottom of the tile.
The Wrap Up
As you can see, this project can be done in just minutes! It’s perfect for when you want to create but want to keep it low key and relaxing. No need to pull out a whole bunch of supplies or get messy for this one. My favorite part is going through and choosing the pages and pieces that I want to use. I hope you love this project as much as I do! I would love to see what you create! So tag me on social media when you post your creations so I can admire them too. Happy crafting, friends!
