I have the cutest project for you today! I’m making cute sugar shapes that are perfect for adding a fancy touch to your coffee, tea, or hot cocoa!
You know I love everything vintage but I also love cute food creations. I just couldn’t resist sharing this adorable project with you. I learned all about making sugar shapes recently and I just love the way they turned out. Even if you aren’t super handy in the kitchen this is a recipe you can handle. It only has two ingredients! And the results are so cute!
Making Cute Sugar Shapes
I don’t know about you but it is COLD where I live. That means that I am spending more time indoors being crafty and more time drinking warm beverages. What could be better than a project that combines those two things? Enter cute sugar shapes! These little guys are perfect for adding to a cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa and they sure put a smile on my face!
I love making cute things in the kitchen and these sugar shapes definitely fit that description! The only equipment that you absolutely have to have to make these is an oven proof candy mold. These little cuties need to bake so be sure the candy mold you use is safe for the oven. Candy molds come in so many adorable shapes. You can find them for any holiday and any occasion! That means these sugar shapes would make great little gifts or would be fun to put out when you have company.
Some Variations…
The recipe that I used is super simple but several of you had some great ideas for additions! You could use clear vanilla or maple syrup extract to add a little flavor to your sugar. You could also add a bit of food coloring if you wanted to make them extra decorative. I made some hearts and Easter eggs and it would be so cute to add red to the hearts and color to the eggs. I use my sugar shapes for coffee but you could also use them as the finishing touch on cupcakes! Someone even suggested that these would be perfect for a coffee bar. How fun would that be at a party, bridal/baby shower or wedding?
Sugar Shape Supply List
- Oven proof candy mold
- Mixing bowl
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp of water
- Fork
- Offset spatula
- Cookie sheet
Step by Step Instructions
- Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees.
- Start by pouring your sugar into your mixing bowl. Then add the water. Next, use the fork to combine.
- Now put the mixture into your mold and use an offset spatula to press it into the mold and level them off.
- Place the filled molds on a cookie sheet and place your cookie sheet into the oven. Bake them for 15 minutes.
- Allow your sugar to cool completely before gently removing them from the molds. Store them in an air tight container.
The Wrap Up…
That’s it friends! I told you it was a super simple recipe. When your sugar shapes are done you can obviously do whatever you want with them but here’s what I like to do… I get a cute mug and add my hot coffee. Then I add a bit of flavored creamer and stir it in. Next I top it with a pretty swirl of whipped cream. Finally I top that with some cute (holiday appropriate) sprinkles and I’m ready to enjoy! Now, more than ever, it’s about the little things. And these little things make me happy. I hope they bring you some joy too!
